Moru curry or kalan is a traditional kerala dish and it can be prepared with Yam,raw plantain or wintermelon.This is a curry with no dal and it tastes good with brown rice.
Ingredients:
- Wintermelon - 250gms
- Green chilly - 3
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Curd (thick) - 1 cup
- Cumin seeds(jeera) - 1/4 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
- Dry red chilly - 2
- Fenugreek seeds (uluva) - 1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves
- Salt
- Oil
Preparation:
- Chop wintermelon into medium pieces and cook with little turmeric powder,red chilly powder,salt and water.
- Grind grated coconut with jeera,curry leaves, green chilly to a fine paste.
- Add beaten curd to cooked wintermelon and stir well to avoid curdling.
- Once it becomes thick in consistency add coconut paste to it and boil for 2-3 mins.Remove from fire.
- Heat oil in a pan .splutter mustard seeds,dry chilly and fenugreek seeds and add it to the curry.
- Garnish with curry leaves.

Its been more than an year since I started blogging…I couldn’t believe that this is my 100th post and on this special occasion iam going to give you all a special sweet n spicy virtual treat with ghee rice,chicken curry,raita and vermicelli payasam. I started this just for time pass and now I got to know more about cooking . so I want to thank all my blogger friends for your support and Valuable comments.
Neychoru (Ghee Rice)
Ney choru is a traditional malabar Muslim dish and it tastes good with any non veg. curry ,papadam,pickle and raita.

Ingredients:
- Basmati Rice - 2 cups
- Onion(Big,chopped) - 2
- Cashewnuts - 1 cup
- Raisins - 1/2 cup
- Ginger-garlic paste - 2 tbsp
- Cinnamon - 1
- Cloves -4
- Bayleaves - 2
- Pepper corns - 4
- cardamom - 2
- Coriander leaves
- Water - 4 cups
- Carrot (chopped) - 1/4 cup
- Salt
- Ghee - 5 tbsp
Preparation
- Soak rice in water for half an hour.
- Heat ghee in a pan and fry half of the chopped onions till golden brown and keep aside.
- In the remaining ghee saute cinnamon,cloves,cardamom,peppercorns and bay leaves,ginger-garlic paste,coriander leaves,chopped carrots and remaining chopped onions.
- Add rice to it and fry for 3-4 mins till it becomes crispy.
- Now add 4 cups of boiled water to rice mix and cover and cook until all the water is absorbed.
- Garnish with fried cashews,raisins and onions.
- Serve hot with raita, chicken curry .
Chicken Dofiyas
This recipe is adapted from a cookery show. .. it tasted great with ghee rice.Enjoy!

Ingredients
- Chicken - 1kg
- Tomato(medium, cut into round pieces) - 1
- Ginger - 1" piece
- Dry red chilly - 2
- Garlic pods - 6
- Green chilly - 2
- Capsicum -1
- Kasoori methi powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
- Kashmiri chilly powder - 1 tbsp
- Garam Masala powder - 1 tsp
- Pepper powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Milk - 1/4 cup
- Cashewnut paste -1 tbsp
- Vegetable oil or Dalda
- Salt
- Ghee- 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves
Preparation:
- Marinate chicken with turmeric powder and salt.
- Heat Dalda in a pan.Saute chopped ginger,garlic and once it is done add green chilly,kasoori methi powder,dry red chilly,chopped onions,chopped capsicum and fry well.
- Add garam masala powder,pepper powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder,chilly powder and mix well.once raw smell goes add chicken pieces and mix well.
- Add milk and Cashewnut paste to it .cover and cook till chicken is well cooked.Add ghee to it and mix well.
- Garnish with tomato pieces and coriander leaves.
Raita

Ingredients:
- Onions - 2
- Carrot -2
- Coriander leaves
- Yogurt - 1 cup
- Salt
Preparation
Mix well chopped onions,grated carrots ,coriander leaves,salt and yogurt.Raita is ready to serve.
Semiya payasam

Ingredients:
- Vermicelli(Semiya) - 1 cup
- Cashew nuts - 10-12
- Raisins - 10
- Water
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Milk - 4 cups
- Ghee
- cardamom powder - a pinch
Preparation:
- Heat ghee in a pan and fry cashewnuts and raisins and keep aside.
- In the same ghee, fry the vermicelli till light brown
- Boil milk with water and stir continuously. once it starts boiling , Add vermicelli to it and mix well.
- Once it becomes soft , add sugar to it and stir till it becomes thick.
- Garnish with fried cashew nuts, raisins and cardamom powder.
- serve hot or cold.

This has been my all favourite and it is a popular tea time snack of kerala.
Ingredients:
- Refined Flour(Maida)-2 cup
- Ripe plaintain(nenthrapazham)- 2
- Sugar - 2 tbsp
- Salt-one pinch
- Water
- Coconut Oil
- Yellow color or turmeric powder -one pinch
Method
- Peel banana and cut them into 2 halves.Then slit into 4 pieces.
- Make a batter with maida,salt sugar,turmeric powder by adding water gradually to form a thick consistency.
- Heat oil in a pan.when oil is hot,dip each banana pieces in the batter and drop into oil.
- Deep fry till both sides are golden in color.
- Serve with hot tea.

Soy chunks contains 70% of protein and soy can be considered as an alternative to milk,egg and meat.. In this recipe i used Half a cup of soy chunks and it contains 15gms of protein..This is quick and easy to make.

Ingredients:
- Soy chunks-1/2 cup
- Onion(big)-1
- Ginger-garlic paste-2tbsp
- Tomato(cut into small pieces)-2
- Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
- Kashmiri chilly powder-1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder-1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder-1/2 tsp
- salt
- Coriander leaves
Preparation:
- Soak soy chunks in water for 15 mins and squeeze the water out.
- Pressure cook with salt and little turmeric powder for 1 whistle.
- Heat oil in a pan.Saute onion(cut into small pieces) till light brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste together with all powders and stir for 2-3 mins.
- Add chopped tomato and fry for sometime.
- Add soy chunks to it and fry till gets dry.
- Garnish with Coriander leaves.

Usually I make bhaji with onions. This time i tried with the bell peppers. This is quick and easy to make and iam sure you all will enjoy this spicy snack .
Ingredients:
- Capsicum(big) - 4
- Besan(chick pea flour) - 1 cup
- Baking powder - 1/4 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
- Jeera powder - 1/4 tsp
- Garam Masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Lime juice - 1 tsp
Preparation
- Cut capsicum into medium pieces and mix with salt and keep aside.
- Mix besan,baking powder,salt,red chilly pdr,coriander pdr,jeera pdr,garam masala pdr,ginger garlic-paste,lime juice and sufficient amount of water to make a thick batter.
- Heat oil in a pan.when it is hot, dip each capsicum pieces in the batter and deep fry till golden brown.
- Serve with ketchup or chilly sauce.

This is a traditional curry of kerala..For Puttu, kadala curry is a must .This curry also goes well with appam,Chappathis….Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- Black chick peas(kadala) - 1 cup
- Green chilly - 2
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Coriander seeds - 2 tsp
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Shallots - 5
- Garlic - 2
- Ginger - a small piece
- Cloves - 2
- Bayleaves
- Cinnamon stick -2
- Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Mustard seeds -1/4 tsp
- Dry red chilly - 2
- Salt
- Coconut oil
- Curry leaves
Preparation:
- Soak kadala overnight. Pressure cook with little turmeric powder, green chilly(cut into lengthwise) salt and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan.Fry grated coconut,coriander seeds, shallots, clove,cinnamon,bayleaves,fennel seeds,ginger,garlic till light brown in color.once it is cool, grind it into a fine paste.
- Add the coconut paste to kadala mix and boil.
- Heat oil in a pan . Splutter mustard seeds, dry red chilly and add the seasoning to the curry.
- Garnish with curry leaves.

This is an easy and quick recipe.It goes well with rice as side dish.
Ingredients:
- Eggplant (big,cut into round pieces) - 2
- Chilly powder - 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder -1 tsp
- Rice flour - 1/2 tsp
- Salt
- Coconut oil
Preparation:
- Mix well chilly powder,turmeric powder,rice flour,salt without adding water.
- Marinate the eggplant pieces with the mix and keep aside for 1 hr.
- Heat oil in a pan. Shallow fry till both sides are brown in color.

- Raw Mango - 1
- Shallots - 8
- Dry red chilly - 3
- Salt
- Coconut oil - 1 tsp
Preparation:
- Cut mango into small pieces.
- Grind together mango,shallots,dry red chilly and salt into a paste.
- Add coconut oil to it and mix well
- Serve with rice or kanji.

Chicken is my daughter’s favourite and once in a while i prepare some variety of chicken dish.Normally she likes non-spicy food,but when it comes to chicken she wanted it more spicy.hope you all will enjoy this yummy chicken fry..

Ingredients:
- Chicken Drumsticks - 1/2 kg
- Tandoori chicken masala - 2 tsp
- Ginger-garlic paste - 2 tsp
- Curd - 4 tsp
- Kashmiri chilly powder - 1tsp
- Lime juice - 2tsp
- Pudina leaves - 1 tbsp
- Salt
- Food color (optional) 1 pinch
- coconut oil
Preparation:
- Using a Knife,Make fine slits on chicken drumsticks.
- Make a paste with the ingredients numbered 2 to 9 and marinate the chicken with the masala paste.Keep aside for atleast 6 hrs.
- Heat oil in a frying pan.Fry till both sides are deep brown in color.

when sri announced rotimela i was thinking of making something unique.so i ended up making coconut chapathi. This is so simple and easy to make and it tastes good with any veg. curry.hope you all will enjoy it.
Ingredients:
- Grated Coconut - 1 cup
- Sambhar powder - 2 tsp
- Wheat flour(atta) - 2 1/2 cup
- Salt
- Ghee
- Coriander leaves(chopped) - 2tbsp
- Warm Water
Preparation:
- Mix wheat flour ,grated coconut ,sambhar powder, chopped coriander leaves,salt ,required amount of water and Knead it to a soft dough.keep covered with a damp cloth for about 30 mins.
- Make balls out of the dough.Roll out into flat round shapes using chappathi roller.
- Heat tava on medium heat. place the chappathi on the tava and when small bubbles appear turn over.cook until both sides are golden brown.
- Remove from pan and brush up both sides with little ghee.
